Types Of Attic Insulation & Their Benefits

Installing or improving existing insulation in your attic is one of the fastest and most effective ways to save on your electricity bill. There are two basic types of insulation for use in attics, and each offers different benefits.

BLANKET OR ROLL INSULATION

Roll insulation, generally made of fiberglass and resembling pink or golden fleece blankets, is the easiest to install and requires no special machinery, though installation may be more time consuming. It provides excellent insulation for nearly any job, though it may not be as well suited to oddly-shaped holes.

LOOSE FILL INSULATION

While loose fill insulation requires the use of a blowing machine to install, loose fill can cover gaps too small or oddly-shaped for fiberglass batting to handle. Loose fill’s malleable shape means that you can simply keep spreading it until you have the insulation thickness you’re after, without having to lay down roll after roll of batting.

Which type of insulation you have installed will likely depend on the physical details of your attic space, but keep in mind that loose fill and fiberglass rolls can easily be combined, with fiberglass filling large areas and loose fill plugging any gaps. Ask a trained installation specialist such as Central Exteriors  for gutter repairs, siding repairs” and “attic repairs” is what your best solution is, and enjoy your newly insulated attic!
